Wheeling Area Genealogical Society
August 10, 2019
The August meeting of the Wheeling Area Genealogical Society was held Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Ohio County Public Library auditorium, 52 16th Street, Wheeling, WV at 1:00 p.m. The meeting followed a presentation by Bekah Karelis on “Archibald Woods Family”. Officers, Board members, and Lookout editor attended.
The Treasurer’s report was distributed and approved. There is a total of $5,998.44 in the accounts. No minutes were read for the July business meeting.
Jeanne Finstein suggested a 2020 lecture series on churches in the Wheeling area. Some area churches were discussed as possibilities for presentation.
The meeting was conducted by Carol Bell on organization of the WAGS storage room. Carol stated how over the years the room has become a repository of books/magazines/papers/machines that no one knows about and no one has looked at in decades. She also described how the cabinet containing the masters was organized along with the other two cabinets containing office supplies and copies of books to be sold. Diane Rhodes, Marjorie Richey and Carol Bell reviewed a few of the shelves (previous to the meeting) containing Genealogical Helper, SAR and DAR magazines and a book binding machine along with the binders. They recommended that the old Genealogical Helper, SAR and DAR magazines, which have been digitized and are now searchable online, and the book binding machine and binders be discarded to make room for other societies’ newsletters that need to be removed from the Wheeling Room. They also recommended the genealogy materials they discovered in cabinet #3 be listed in the Wheeling Room so Diane and others can request to see/use it. Carol took the SAR magazines to give to Gary Timmons of SAR. Marjorie Richey is to get in touch with Joan McClelland of the DAR to verify if they want these magazines or if they feel they need to be kept. The discard topic will be revisited at the next meeting.
Carol also announced that she had made reservations at Perkins for the November 9th WAGS breakfast at 10 o’clock.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marjorie E. Richey
